Voter registration certifications may be delayed

The Colorado County Elections Department, along with counties across Texas, is working closely with the Tex - as Secretary of State's Office to prepare and mail renewal voter registration certificates for the 2026–2027 cycle. Due to the state's redevelopment of the voter registration system, delays are occurring statewide. The new system represents a major software overhaul, and as with any large-scale imple - mentation, technical issues and unexpected delays have arisen.

Under Section 14.001 of the Texas Election Code, voter registrars are required to issue renewal voter registration cer -

tificates on or after November 15 but before December 6 of each odd-numbered year. At this time, the mass-mailout function within the state's vot - er registration system is not operational. "Please be assured, as we approach a very busy election year, that our priorities include an accurate voter roll and elec - tion integrity," said Rebecka LaCourse, county election ad - ministrator.
