The Fayetteville High School boy’s basketball team didn’t only earn a blowout win Feb. 3 at Lions Gym in Fayetteville, they set the national record for three-pointers in game with 40 three-pointers made, defeating Buck- holts High School by a fi nal score of 120-25.

The Lions literally only shot three-pointers for the entire game and they were obviously cashing them in.

The previous record was 36 and every Lions player that played in the game hit a three-pointer.

They attempted 98 total shots in the game.

“We were trying to get a little bit of practice in,” said Fayetteville head boy’s basketball coach Jake Diggs. “We kind of knew what the game was gonna be, so trying to find something we could work on. Just treated it as some shooting practice and see what happens.”

Fayetteville senior point guard Mason Fenhaus was hitting a bunch of shots throughout the game and had 39 points for the night.

“We were just going for as many threes as we could make,” Fenhaus said. “Three of us had 10 I think. That’s gotta be some type of record.”

Buckholts didn’t score a point in the first quarter and Fayetteville led 45-0 after a few three-pointers from Fenhaus and a bunch of them coming from senior Kasen Kocian.

Kole Schmitt led the team in three-pointers made for this game as he made 13 of them and also finished with 39 points. Buckholts scored their first points at the 7:18 mark in the second quarter to make it 45-2, then the threepoint party continued for Fayetteville with Fenhaus and Kocian still hitting a bunch of threes to take a 66-8 lead at halftime.

Fenhaus started the third quarter with a long three-pointer made to make it 69-8, which was followed by more shots from beyond the arc and a bunch of makes for the Lions to result in a 96-11 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was no different as the long range shots continued to fall for Fayetteville en route to a 120-25 victory.
