FAYETTE COUNTY — Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Feb.1, around 9:19 p.m., Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on a 2016 Jeep Patriot for a traffic violation on Interstate-10, westbound, around the 658 mile marker.
Williams met with the driver, Faliciano Martinez Fernandez, 49, of San Benito.
Fernandez consented to a search of the vehicle, and Williams located a concealed exhaust compartment. After entry was made into the compartment, Williams located wrapped bundles of US currency.
Fernandez was placed under arrest and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange, charged with Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument and Money Laundering.
The total amount of US currency was $64,000. Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty
