COLUMBUS — Colorado County Sheriff’s Investigator Tyler Pavlicek, assigned to the Criminal Interdiction Unit, Feb. 4 stopped a vehicle, traveling east on Interstate 10 near the 695-mile marker due to a traffic violation.
Pavlicek made contact with the driver, Christopher Rivas, 29, of Spring, passengers John Rivas, 30, of Katy and Gabriella Cervantes, 27, of Spring.
Pavlicek requested consent to search the vehicle and it was denied. Pavlicek called in the canine unit from Austin County for probable cause. K-9 Knox showed a positive alert on the vehicle.
Pavlicek discovered multiple plastic bags of US currency totaling $31,513 and a controlled substance.
All three were taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance and money laundering. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
