CARMINE — The Round Top-Carmine High School boy’s basketball team suffered a tough loss vs Richards High School February 13 at Cubs Gym in Carmine by a final score of 89-44.

This was an offensive clinic from Richards as they scored in about just every way imaginable. They hit long range shots, short range, made their free throws, and capitalized with fast-break layups in transition.

“They’re a team that has a lot of height and length,” said Round Top-Carmine head boy’s basketball coach Brock Marburger.

“They get out in transition and run really well. They can shoot it from three, so you kind of got to pick your battles. They’re a really, really good team and they’re at the top of our district for a reason. It’s a tough match up for us. They’re length just presents a lot of problems and it was on display tonight. I give our boys credit for competing all the way to the end. I give Richards credit for having a good night tonight and having a good season overall.”

Round Top made it 10-8 in favor of Richards after a layup from senior Kash Wessels with 4:17 to go in the first quarter, then Richards scored 14 unanswered points on two threes, a few short baskets, and a few layups to make it 24-8 at the end of the first quarter. Richards continued to pour it on with two more threes in the second quarter along with tons of layups and a couple short baskets to take a 50-17 lead at halftime.

Richards didn’t let up and played the same kind of game in the third quarter, creating offense with their defense and getting fast break points as well as making shots from long range.

Round Top was able to hit a couple long shots, but it was still a very large lead for Richards at the end of the third quarter with a score of 68-30. \\The Panthers slowed their pace down a little in the fourth quarter and rested their starters as the game was way out of reach, resulting in a 89-44 outcome.
