WHARTON - The Wharton County Junior College Drama Department's first performance of the season reveals the horrors of 1960's-era mental institutions through the lens of a character made famous by Hollywood icon Jack Nicholson. Originally written as a novel, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is best known by its film adaptation, starring Nicholson as a rebellious patient at a mental hospital. WCJC's version is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 19-21 at the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The admission is free and open to the public.
WCJC Instructor of Drama Jami Hughes said the time was right for the play, which requires a large male cast.
"I was blessed to have so many male students this semester and I wanted to find an outlet to use as many of them as possible," she said. "This is such a strong, well-known production, and I've never had the opportunity to produce it before. It has come together beautifully with the incredibly talented cast that I have."
