Primary Election Information

What is a Primary Election?

The March 3 election is a Primary Election, which means it is conducted by the Republican and Democratic political parties. When you vote in a primary, you must select a party to affiliate your ballot with. All other political affiliations choose their candidates by other means.

In Colorado County, we hold Joint Primaries.

This means both the Re publican and Democratic parties conduct elections at the same location, using the same election workers. The county administers the election process, but each party is responsible for declaring its winners and any run-offs.

Why Vote in the March 3 Primary?

• Select candidates for the General Election: Your vote determines which candidates will appear on the November ballot.

• Choose county-level candidates: Local offices are included in the primary election. This March 3, Primary there are no contested local races.

• Participate in party conventions: Voting makes you eligible to attend your precinct’s party convention.

• Provide input on party issues: Some issues are placed on the ballot by the parties for voter feedback.

Ballot Propositions

Ballot propositions in the primary are opinion polls of party voters.

They are not laws or binding policy decisions. By voting YES or NO, you are expressing agreement or disagreement with the statement provided.
