WHARTON — The Wharton County Junior College Band's first concert of the Spring 2026 season is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, covering beloved songs from iconic composers Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Entitled “From the Pit to the Podium: Broadway Favorites,” the concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. The performance is free of admission and open to the public.
WCJC Band Director Dr. Jeffrey Anderson said that the concert’s genre is ideal for his students.
“I decided to choose this theme and genre because we have several band students involved in theater and several students who are in choir. Musical theater crosses over into both of these art forms wonderfully,” he said.
Selections will cover the Golden Age of Broadway, a period in the mid-20th Century marked by iconic mu- sicals like South Pacific and The Sound of Music.
Anderson said band students should have a fun and educational time learning the music.
