WEIMAR — Friends of the Weimar Public Library and Colorado County AgriLife are offering everyone a new way to get involved, improve your health, and have fun. The program, Walk Across Texas, focuses on teams who record the miles they walk and the activities they complete to compete with other teams of walkers.
Did you know that if a team walks a combined 832 miles, they essentially will have walked across Texas?
The Walk Across Texas program is designed to help us be more active in a team-based approach. It is so simple. Participants create or join a team of up to eight people who work together towards the goal of “walking across Texas.” You might want to create a neighborhood team, or a team at work, or just a random group of like-minded people who want to focus on a healthy activity.
Friends of the Weimar Public Library is encouraging church groups, clubs, organizations, businesses, teachers, hospital/clinic/ caregivers, banks etc. to create their teams and join them in a competition that can help establish the habit of regular physical activity and a fun, flexible way to ex ercise. The program spans an eight-week period, and at its end, awards are distributed to the winning top three teams.
Each team member’s favorite physical activity can also be logged as “miles walked.” For instance, 30 minutes of moderate intensi- ty aerobics equals 1.5 miles walked. A convenient, simple method of converting activity minutes to miles is provided to participants on the howdy.tamu.edu website. Call the Weimar Public Library at 979-725-6608 to join the Walk Across Texas program.
