Fayetteville boy's basketball has big second half to defeat Brookeland

CLEVELAND — The Fayetteville High School boy’s basketball team defeated Brookeland High School March 6 at Cleveland High School and won in convincing fashion by a final score of 7356. A closer first half led to the Lions really getting the offense going in the second half with a lot of made baskets and transition points to eventually win the game handedly.

“I thought we had a good

game plan coming in,” said Fayetteville head boy’s basket- ball coach Jake Diggs.

“They got great players and we just tried to contain those guys and make the other guys beat us. Do a good job contest ing every shot and we wanted to run the floor on offense and take good shots ourselves. I

thought we did a pretty good job of that."

Fayetteville senior Jack Schley was an important contributor throughout the game and also made some timely shots.

"It feels great," Schley said.

“Last year, we lost to them in the regional finals. We wanted to win bad this year. We know we got a special team this year.

We can make a big run, so we work hard every day in prac- tice. We do everything we can to win." The Lions had a 25-21 lead at the 4:53 mark in the second quarter, then after a re sponse with some baskets from Brookeland, Fayetteville went on a big run towards the end of the quarter with a three-point -

er, a pull up jumper from Jack Schley, a fast-break layup from Kole Schmitt, and a floater from Enoch Loafmann at the

25 second mark to take a 38-29 lead going into halftime.

Fayetteville had a huge third quarter and even though Brookeland battled back to still make it a game, Fayetteville basically put things out of reach at the two and a half minute mark after a three-pointer from Loafmann to put the score at 55-39.

The Lions continued this kind of pace throughout the rest of the quarter and finished the quarter with a layup and

some free throws to take a 61--

44 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Fayetteville went up as

much as 25 points in the fourth quarter on a few layups and

a couple baskets to make it

71-46 after a fast-break layup from Schmitt at the 4:11 mark.

The Lions started to run the clock at about the three and a half minute mark and cruised to a 73-56 win.
