Fayetteville baseball defeated by Ganado

FAYETTEVILLE — The Fayetteville High School baseball team was defeated by Ganado High School March 17 at SPJST Park in Fayetteville by a fi nal score of 7-3.

After the Lions kept it close for the majority of the game with a small amount of runs scored by both teams, Ganado caught fire in their last at bat to eventually win comfortably.

“We’re kind of a little inexperienced in some places,” said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger. “Overall, we gave up some free bases to them and that just kind of bit us. Pitchers did fine. Didn't walk a lot of batters and were in the strike zone. Hitting wise, we were up there and we were having good at bats. Just seeing live pitching is all we need to see, so we’ll get better everyday the more pitches we see.”

Ganado scored their first run in the top of the first inning on a stolen base at home after a triple, then didn’t score again until the fourth inning on an infield hit, two stolen bases, and a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

Fayetteville answered in

their following at bat with a double down the right field line from Jack Schley that scored Kole Schmitt after he reached on an error by the pitcher.

This was followed by Schley scoring on a pass ball to tie the game at two.

Ganado responded in the top of the fifth inning with a base hit, a double, a sacri- fice bunt, and a stolen home base to take a 4-2 lead.

The Lions continued to fight back and scored in the bottom of the sixth inning with two walks, a stolen base, hit by pitch, and a base hit to put the score at 4-3.

Ganado then put the game on ice with batters reaching on two errors in the outfield, a base hit, a pass ball, and a sacrifice bunt to take a 7-3 advantage.

Two strikeouts and a groundout from Fayetteville in the last inning won it for Ganado 7-3.
