Two local businesses close its door

COLUMBUS — In this time of economic uncertainty, the closing of any business prompts thoughts about which other businesses might shutter in 2026.

Jack in the Box opened a Columbus location in 2001. That store closed this month due to a decline in customer traffic. Consumers underap preciated the good taste of its meals and actually getting orders right.

A local family business shutting its doors is Mikeska’s BBQ in Columbus. Owner David Divin says he is ending operations at the end of this month. He owned Mikeska’s BBQ since 2020, when the original owner, Jerry Mikeska, sold it to Divin. Started in 1956 as a catering business, it later became famous as an iconic yurt-style restaurant with dozens of mounted animal heads hanging on the walls. The barbecue was second to none, often copied but never its equal.
