Sealy baseball blows out Willowridge

SEALY — The Sealy High School baseball team defeated Willowridge High School March 27 in blowout fashion and won by mercy rule in five innings with a final score of 13-0.

Sealy had the bats going from the very beginning and also had top notch pitching in order to head home early and pick up a dominating win.

"Today was a lot of first pitch strikes and guys being comfortable at the plate,” said Sealy head baseball coach Will Cerny.

“I told the guys to hunt everything early and they did. They took advantage of the fast ball early in counts, got a couple hanging breaking balls, were able to stay through it and drive it the other way. The guys just had a really good approach to it. We talked about it on Wednesday and Thursday this week after our Tuesday game. We had a lot of stuff we needed to work on. We wanted to talk about throw- ing first pitch strikes and just attacking the baseball in the box.”

Tigers sophomore pitcher Alex Gutierrez pitched a dazzling outing and while he had a lot of offense behind him, he didn’t allow much of anything from Willowridge on the mound.

“Just throw strikes,” Gutierrez said. “Provide anything I can do to help the team out.”

Sealy scored most of their runs in their very first at bat as they scored 10 runs in the inning with a botched ball from Willowridge, a triple from junior Max Hinze, seven base hits, a few stolen bases, and a triple from senior Hagen Anderson.

Sealy scored one more run in the second inning on another triple and a base hit, then scored their final runs in the third inning on a hit by pitch, a stolen base, a walk, and a botched ball to make it 13-0.

It was pretty quiet for the rest of the game and Sealy was able to secure the win in five innings by mercy rule on three strikeouts to win it 13-0.
