Fermentation Workshop brings Kimchi to center stage

LA GRANGE — If you heard joyful chopping sounds echoing through La Grange this past week, don’t worry — It was a Fermentation Workshop hosted by Fayette Public Library, Women, Infants & Children (WIC) office, and Texas A&M AgriLife Exten- sion Office. The program highlighted traditional fermentation methods with a special spotlight on one of the world’s most iconic fermented foods: kimchi.

Participants learned how fermentation transforms simple ingredients into nu- trient-rich, flavor-packed staples found in cultures across the globe. Participants left with their own jars of kimchi to ferment at home, along with printed guides to continue experimenting with sauerkraut, pickles, and other beginner- friendly ferments.

Thanks to everyone who joined in to celebrate cul- ture, flavor, and good bac teria, plus a special thanks to La Grange HEB for their donation, which helped make this event a success.
