COLUMBUS — As an Emergency Care Attendant for the Colorado County EMS, starting out in 1986, Marilyn Hinze has logged 40 years in the emergency medical services career. Hinze has consistently gone beyond the call of duty, showing up when people needed help the most and sometimes just to be a part of the community, both for EMS and the public.

Hinze was awarded the prestigious Phoenix Award in 2019, recognizing her for saving a person's life. Her calmness under pressure and her clinical skills, which she developed, earned her the EMT of the Year for Colorado County in 2023.

Hinze’s ability to take experience, heart and skill endears people to her as she just doesn’t treat a patient, but in a lot of instances, a neighbor, friend or relative.

Colorado County Judge Ty Prause issued a proclamation on April 13 during a regular commissioner’s court meeting. It passed unanimously as she was surrounded by her peers.
