SCHULENBURG — The Schulenburg High School softball team defeated Bloomington High School April 14 at Lady Horns Field in Schulenburg by a final score of 20-5 in three innings by mercy rule.

This was a lopsided game for it’s entirety and Bloomington scored most of their runs due to mistakes from Schulenburg.

“It was very offensive for us,” said Schulenburg head softball coach Loren Besetzny. “We needed that. It was waiting at the plate and driving the ball. Staying alive the whole time. Long games like that can get really tedious, but the girls stayed alive. Dugout, on the field. They played together, they played with a lot of heart and the outcome was great.”

Schulenburg pitcher Kinley Tillery closed out the game in the circle and also added some big offense with a triple and an insidethe- park home run.

“I was just excited,” Tillery said on the home run. “I was just telling myself go faster so I can get there.”

Schulenburg had a huge first at bat, scoring 14 runs on a home run from Kerr McBride due to an error, Tillery’s inside-the-park home run, a bunch of pass balls, and a few walks.

Bloomington was able to get on the board in their following at bat with two walks, a stolen base, a botched grounder, and a hit by pitch to make it 14-4.

The Lady Horns were able to score again in the second inning on a botched ball, a walk, an infield hit, a base hit, and a few pass balls along with a ball in the dirt to advance runners throughout the inning and put it at 17-4.

Bloomington scored their final run in the bottom of the second inning on two base hits, then Schulenburg responded with a triple, a double, and two wild throws as well as a botched ball to go ahead 20-5.

Schulenburg closed out the game on a ground out, a pop out, and a strikeout to win it 20-5 by mercy rule in three innings.
