Bellville softball smokes Almeta Crawford

KATY - The Bellville High School softball team defeated Almeta Crawford High School April 24 by a final score of 9-1 at Cypress Lakes High School in Katy.

Stellar pitching and the ability to create offense throughout the game was the difference as Bellville was impressive on both sides of the ball.

"We kept a very clean defense," said Bellville head softball coach Lauren Caka. "We were sharp, we were crisp, everything that we did on defense mattered and everything looked good. Hitting wise, we didn't get down on ourselves, we came out hot, and we just kept the ball rolling the whole entire game." Brahmanettes pitcher Ella Burnett pitched a stellar game and didn't allow Crawford to get in any kind of rhythm offensively. She also launched a home run and had a big game at the plate as well.

"It's really good, especially since we scored nine runs," Burnett said. "It just gives me a deep breath and lets me know that we can do it." Bellville scored their first run in the top of the second inning after a double from Avery Goebel and a walk from Caylee Flores.

They scored four more runs in the same inning on a triple, a sacrifice fly, Burnett's home run, and a base hit to take a 5-0 lead.

The Brahmanettes added to their advantage in the top of the fourth inning on a double from Burnett, a botched ball in right field, and a fielder's choice grounder to make it 7-0.

Burnett hit another double in the top of the sixth inning, this time to the left field wall after a walk from Elizabeth Romero to put it at 8-0, then they scored their final run on an infield hit, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 scoreboard.

Crawford responded in their next at bat for their only run with a double, a sacrifice bunt, and a base hit to left field. Bellville was able to close out the game on a grounder, a sacrifice bunt for an out, and a double play on a bunt where a runner was thrown out at third base to end the game and result in a 9-1 win.

Bellville lost the second game in their series by a final score of 4-0, then won the third game 13-3 to win the series. They will play Jarrell High School April 30 a time and location still to be determined.
