25th Annual Slavnost "May Fest" set for May 17

LA GRANGE — The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) invites the public to attend the 25th Annual Slavnost “May Fest” on Sunday, May 17, for a full day of Czech culture, music, food, and family- friendly activities.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a special ceremony honoring Czech immigrants to Texas. A highlight of the morning will be the unveiling of a monument commemorating the 2024 visit of Czech President Petr Pavel and First Lady Eva Pavlova.

A chicken fried chicken dinner will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m., accompanied by traditional Czech desserts and refreshments. Live music will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring the Vintage Drafts Band, along with a special performance by Pardubická Muzika from the Czech Republic from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Additional activities throughout the day include a traditional May Pole Dance at 2:30 p.m., cultural demonstrations in the Czech Village, and booths hosted by Czech-founded organizations. The Czech Heritage Society of Texas will offer activities for children and families.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the TCHCC Czech Village, which features restored buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s that depict early Czech-Texan life. The Village includes the Mary Magdalene Chapel of Mnisi, Blacksmith Shop, historic family homes, museums, and agricultural exhibits.

Guests can also shop at the Kopecky Gift Shop, which offers a wide selection of unique gifts, including newly arrived Czech garnet jewelry from the Czech Republic.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to make it a full weekend by visiting the Bluff Schuetzenfest on Saturday, May 16, at the Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites.

In case of inclement weather, all Slavnost activities will continue indoors at Pavilion Hall on the TCHCC grounds.
