BASTROP — The Flatonia High School softball team was defeated by Thorndale High School May 7 at Bastrop High School softball field by a final score of 6-2.
Thorndale was able to create a little more run support and play a solid game defensively in order to secure the win.
“I think we just have to change our approach at the plate,” said Flatonia head softball coach Shane Walker.
“We just have to make adjustments at the plate. I thought we played really well defensively and pitched well.”
Thorndale had a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning until Fla - tonia scored their first run in the same inning on a botched ball, a sto- len base, and a fielder's choice grounder from Jalee Trussell to send in the run.
Thorndale added to their lead in their very next at bat with two base hits and a double to the left field wall to make it 5-1.
They went on to tally
their final run in the top of the fifth inning on a
base hit and a triple down the right field line.
Flatonia marked their final run in the bottom of the seventh on two base hits, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly.
Thorndale was able to close out the game on a strikeout and a ground out to first base to win it 6-2.
