Pursuit ends with spiked tires

FLATONIA - Fayette County Deputy Noah Geer recently initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg about 2:30 a.m.

T he vehicle failed to yield to Geer's emergency lights and siren and instead accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Flatonia Police Department Sergeant Trey Tunis success - fully deployed tire-deflation devices, disabling all four tires of the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle exited the in- terstate in Flatonia, continuing on two deflated tires and two rims before coming to a stop in a restaurant parking lot along the frontage road. Upon stop - ping, both occupants fled on foot into a wooded area behind the business.

The female passenger, identified as Jade Smith, 18, of New Mexico, was apprehend - ed almost immediately. She resisted arrest during the en - counter. The male driver, iden -

tified as Tyrese Mitchell, 26, of San Antonio, initially evad - ed officers by hiding in thick brush but was located minutes later. He also resisted arrest.

Mitchell stated he fled be - cause he had a suspended driv - er's license. A search of the ve -

hicle did not reveal any illegal substances or contraband.

Mitchell was medical- ly cleared at a local hospital and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange, where he was charged with Evading Arrest or Deten - tion with a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation.

Smith was also transport -

ed to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Evad - ing Arrest or Detention and Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation.

The Fayette County Sher - iff's Office extends its appreci - ation to the Flatonia Police De - partment and the Schulenburg Police Department for their assistance. We are grateful that the incident was resolved safe -

ly and without serious injury.
