Police pursuit ends in a swarm

FAYETTE COUNTY — Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported the afternoon of June 3, around 5:51 p.m., Deputy Joe Gonzales attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2010 Jeep Cherokee on Farm-to-Market Road 609 near I-10 for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit proceeded into the Flatonia, down several streets, and then returned into the county on FM 609 northbound, turning onto Stryk Road. Several units continued behind the suspect vehicle, which refused to stop and, during the pursuit, turned onto South Knesek Road and wrecked into trees. As law enforcement approached the vehicle, a swarm of bees was observed around the vehicle and stinging officers. Law en forcement called for EMS and the Flatonia Volunteer Fire Department to respond to the scene.

Assisting at the scene were deputies Herman Olvera, Noah Geer and A.B Marroquin, Sgt. Ron Naumann, Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick, Flatonia Offi cer Trey Tunis, Flatonia Volunteer Fire Department, and Fayette County EMS Medic Unit 4, EMS Supervisors 2 and 3. The 31-year-old suspect was identified as Bradley Lang hamer of La Grange, and once removed from the vehicle, was transported to the Columbus Community Hospital, where he was transferred to a Life Flight Helicopter and transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in the Medical Center for injuries obtained in the ac- cident. Charges are being filed with the Fayette County Attor- ney's Office.
