The EEA of Austin County hosted an educational gardening program featured Jeb Poston, owner of Plants and Things, who shared valuable tips and practical advice for maintaining healthy houseplants.
During the presentation, Poston discussed proper watering techniques and emphasized the importance of avoiding overwatering, which can lead to fungus and root problems. He also explained how lighting conditions and room temperature can greatly impact plant health and growth. One of the key takeaways from the program was practicing the "finger test" to determine when plants truly need water, a simple but effective method for preventing common plant care mistakes.
In addition to watering and environmental care, Poston educated members on selecting the right soil for indoor plants. He advised participants on what products to avoid when purchasing soil and shared his recommendations for healthy root development and proper drainage.
His helpful tips and easy-to-follow suggestions provided those in attendance with practical knowledge they can confi dently apply at home.
The program was well received, with participants gaining valuable insight into creating healthier, longerlasting plants.
Other series are planned.
