Harbert's Garage to mark 100th Anniversary with historical marker unveiling June 12

Downtown Columbus event will feature official historical marker unveiling, remarks, presentations, and a commemorative beer

COLUMBUS — Harbert’s Garage, a longtime downtown Columbus landmark, will be honored during a 100th anniversary celebration at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 12.

The event will include the unveiling of the official historical marker, highlighting the building’s importance in community history.

The evening will feature presentations and a special interview with a former employee who worked in the building during its automotive service years.

Hound Song Brewing Co. will also release a commemorative beer for the occasion.

Harbert’s Garage, located at 535 Walnut St., in Columbus was originally founded in 1913 by Sam Harbert. Harbert expanded the building in 1925 to include its Alamo-façade structure, and on June 12, 1926, held a formal grand opening for members of the community.

Following the garage’s closing, the building housed several businesses, including a service station, transmission shop, hotel, and is the present-day site of Hound Song Brewing Co.

“Harbert’s Garage has been a part of downtown Columbus for generations, and this anniversary is an opportunity to honor that legacy while sharing it with the community,” said Travis Kocurek, co-owner at Hound Song Brewing Co.

The public, local officials and area media are invited to attend the event and take part in recognizing this important milestone in Columbus history.
