LA GRANGE — Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the City of La Grange agreed during a city council meeting on July 13 to participate in a federal program aimed at limiting illegal aliens in Texas. Under the 287(g) program, La Grange police officers will be deployed in a task force model.
Under the task force model,
ICE allows officers to enforce limited immigration authority while on regular police patrol or during an ICE-led task force.
The task force agreement can get up to $7,500 for equip- ment for each officer, $100 for new vehicles and reimbursement for salaries and overtime. ICE offers training for participation in the program.
