SAN MARCOS — Austin County had 10 pecan entries move on from the East Regional Pecan Show to the State Pecan Show for the 2025 crop year. Results from the 2025 Texas State Pecan Show were announced at the Texas Pecan Growers Annual Conference in San Marcos. There were 200 entries representing 85 different grower/farms from 29 Texas counties. San Saba County had the highest representation of eighteen individual entries.
Judges evaluating entries were Dr. Xinwang Wang, Dr. Angelyn Hilton and Dr. Warren Chatwin.
•Grand Champion Native Pecan: Joe Janak, Lavaca Co.
•Reserve Champion Native Pecan: Pat Bays, Comanche Co.
•Grand Champion Classic-New Division: John Kniffen, Menard Co., variety-Lipen
•Reserve Champion Classic-New Division: Mark Walls, Guadalupe Co., variety-Elliott
•Grand Champion Commercial Division: Jackie Brister, San Saba Co., variety-Chotcaw
•Reserve Champion Commercial Division: Shari Kniffen, Menard Co., variety-Pawnee The results are as follows: Note that places were given down as far as the judge saw necessary in each of the categories.
