ALTAIR - An ur gent rescue unfolded on the Colorado River as the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) saved two stranded kayakers near Tait Ranch around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 in Colorado County.
The CVFD swiftly deployed their ATV, scouring the remote area after the kayakers' cell phones pinged their location. By 9:13 p.m., contact was established via text, with instructions to text 911 due to poor cell service. Dispatchers pinpointed the precise location and relayed it to the rescue team.
The rescue boat, launched from the Altair River Bridge boat ramp, sped upstream through the darkness towards the kayakers’ last known spot. Just before 10 p.m., the kayakers were safely pulled from the water and brought back to shore, ending a tense and heroic night.
