WEIMAR — The Weimar Volunteer Fire Department was recently paged out to an electric vehicle fire behind Wildcat Express at a Tesla Supercharging station in Weimar.
The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames as the firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. The City of Weimar utility department immediately disconnected the power to the charging station prior to firefighting.
The large battery that runs Teslas is unique in that the battery kept building up heat, and firefighters had to apply up to 30,000 gallons of water for nearly five hours to stabilize the vehicle enough for transport to a wrecker yard.
Weimar VFD responded with five units and 24 firefighters, assisted by Weimar PD, Colorado County EMS, and the Colorado County Sheriff's Office.
