COLUMBUS — It all started in 1980, when a family in Colorado County had a terrible tragedy just before Christmas. A neighbor went to her congregation of the First United Methodist Church on Milam in Columbus and asked if the church could help this family in distress.
Although this family was not a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, the church had the ability, and it stepped up to its Christian responsibility, and it helped.
In 1986, it officially became the Share Your Christmas Ministry. as the need grew, so did the help the church provided.
In 2016, the First Baptist Church in Columbus joined with a helping hand as they saw the need growing from families that could not afford a decent Christmas for their families.
In 2020, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Columbus added their helping hand to the Share Your Christmas Ministry. More people saw the need for service.
Even with all three churches, it would not be possible without all the individuals who volunteer their time and money, organizations and businesses who support the Share Your Christmas Ministry, it would not be able to offer the helping hand of others.
Christmas is a time for blessings, joy, hope, and for children, it should be magical.
