BELLVILLE — The Austin County Retired Teachers Association held its first meeting of the 2026- 27 school year on Sept. 10, at the Sens Center in Bellville.
Attendees enjoyed a brunch, heard an enlightening presentation, made many plans during the business meeting, and received many door prizes.
Stevie Saucedo of Acara Hospice gave a heartwarming presentation, telling of all their services. She encouraged those present by explaining how retired teachers make perfect volunteers for hospice.
During the business meeting, members were urged to be on the outlook for TRTA’s Legislative priorities for the upcoming session and to start connecting with the state candidates. Early voting is Oct. 19-30, and election day is Nov. 3. It was stressed that every vote counts.
The District 6 TRTA Conference will be in Huntsville on Oct. 14, and all members are invited. An outing to the George Bush Presidential Library is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Members are asked to notify President Janet Montgomery if interested in attending either or both of these events. Other upcoming events are a trip to Brookwood in January and Day at the Capitol on March 31, 2027.
The next meeting will be at the Wallis American Legion Hall on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. To order a box lunch ($10), notify Montgomery by Nov. 5.
Dues may still be paid ($35 state + $5 local) by mailing a check to ACRTA, P.O. Box 941, Bellville, TX 77418.
Remember, all Austin County retired public school employees are encouraged to join ACRTA.
