INDUSTRY — Layne Grafe earned his Eagle rank on Sept. 2. He is a member of the Industry Scouts Troop 299.
He is a senior at Bellville High School and completed his Eagle Scout project for the Friends of Zimmerscheidt Historic School at their historic site located in the community of Zimmerscheidt between Columbus and Frelsburg on FM 109.
Grafe built two rock landscape beds and laid commemorative bricks at the entrance of the pavilion.
Grafe expressed his thanks to those who donated supplies for the project: decomposed granite was donated by Scott Kleimann at River Bend Rock Landscape Supplies in Columbus, sand was donated by Dale Rinn of Industry, and other materials were donated by Andrew, Clyde and Virginia Heinsohn of Frelsburg.
Grafe is the son of Melanie Heinsohn-Grafe and the late Darrell Grafe. He has two brothers, Lucas and Landon, who also earned their Eagle rank in 2025 and 2021.
The Friends of Zim-merscheidt Historic School would invites the community to the National Night Out Celebration-Dedication of the Commemorative Bricks and the new walking trail on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Zimmerscheidt Historic School located 3 1/2 miles south of Frelsburg, the address to the historic site is 2184 FM 109, Columbus.

The historic site includes a one-room historic schoolhouse and an auxiliary building that was a training site for WWII Veterans that included training for different trades for entry back into the workforce: welding, engine repair, farm equipment operation and repair.
