Fayette County Narcotics K-9 Unit seizes 17 Kilos of Cocaine

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek repored that on Sept. 30, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Of- fice Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt.

Randy Thumann and K-9 partner Kolt, stopped a Chevy Traverse on Interstate 10 at the 658-mile marker at approximately 12:54 p.m., for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driv - er Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Thumann deployed his canine “Kolt” who alerted to the odor

of illegal narcotics. Thumann searched the vehicle and discov ered approximately 17 kilos of cocaine in an aftermarket com -

partment located in the floor. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.7 million dollars. The driver Julio Cesar Gomez Cruz, 41, of Mexico, was arrested for felony cocaine possession and re -

leased to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.
