SCHULENBURG — The Schulenburg High School football team fell to Thrall High School Oct. 9 at Shorthorns Field by a final score of 41-20.

A closer game early led to Thrall scoring some late points and pulling away at the end to win by a wide margin.

“Their quarterback’s good, their run game’s good,” said Schulenburg interim head football coach Marty Bigham.

“We were worried about that little formation that they came out in the second half in. We were worried about that all week. They did what we thought they were gonna do, we just got to get better at stopping it. I thought as far as how we played, I thought the effort, the energy, the attitude, I thought that was all much better. I thought it was better on the sidelines. We still got some stuff we gotta clean up. Hoping to keep building on that and trying to get these guys going in the right direction.”

Schulenburg scored the first touchdown of the game at the 11:00 mark in the first quarter, then Thrall answered with two touchdowns with one being a 65-yard passing play and the other a 40-yard run at the 41 second mark to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Thrall scored another touchdown on a 40-yard run up the middle from Malcolm Rodriguez early in the second quarter, which led to the Shorthorns responding with back-to-back touchdowns on a quarterback sneak from Owen Brenek and a catch for a touch- down at the 24 second mark to tie the game at 20 going into

halftime. Thrall ran for two big touchdowns for 50 yards and 56 yards in the third quarter to result in a 34-20 advantage at the end of the third quarter. They went on to score one more touchdown with 10:19 to go in the fourth quarter on a run around the outside for 16 yards and would hold Schulenburg scoreless for the rest of the half to win it 41-20.
