Gegenworth house finds new home

Gegenworth house finds new home
The Gegenworth home was moved about one block from the Columbus Volunteer Fire Depart- ment building to its new resting place on a lot owned by the Nesbitt Memorial Library, shown to the left. The home was donated by the Columbus Economic Development Corporation to the library. Now the renovation begins. Photo by John Jones, Banner Press
Streets were closed and blocked off on Oct. 7 at Bowie, Spring, and Washington in Columbus, while a house was moved from next to the fire station to a lot next to the Nesbitt Memorial Library. A home, once owned by the Gegenworths of Columbus, sat next to the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and was transported along Bowie Street to its new location on a vacant lot next to the Nesbitt Memorial Library. The home was purchased by the Columbus Economic Development Corporation and donated to the library for its use. The donation was a result of the library representatives coming before the economic board and presenting its plans for the house should the board donate it to the library. The library plans to use the house as a venue for historical presentations and to showcase select items. Photo by John Jones, Banner Press
