SAN FELIPE — The Austin County Sheriff's Office executed arrest and search warrants in the 2000 block of Skrivanek Road in San Felipe.
The Austin County Regional Response Team arrested Jesus Suarez Fernandez, 60, of San Felipe on a felony theft warrant.
The operation was the result of an investigation by the Aus- tin County Sheriff's Office Spe cial Investigations Unit (SIU). A search of the property resulted in the recovery of a stolen skid steer and large generator.
Fernandez has been linked to a broader criminal network allegedly operating across the region and internationally. In the long-term investigation into the alleged theft ring, SIU has recovered more than 40 stolen vehicles and equipment. It is estimated the thefts exceed several million dollars.
The takedown of a broad international theft ring originated in Austin County and has expanded throughout the region and also involves Homeland Security.
