ABILENE — Columbus, Schulenburg, Brazos, and Flatonia High Schools all had powerlifters participate in the state powerlifting meet March 24 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene, with lifters from two of the schools crowning themselves as state champions.
Brazos powerlifter Kasey Zientek won the 3A title in the 220 weight class with a squat of 650, bench press of 455, and deadlift of 605 for a total of 1,710. The other powerlifter with a state crown is Flatonia lifter Taden Alvarado in the 2A division and SHW weight class. Alvarado posted a 800 squat, 400 bench press, and 575 deadlift for a total of 1,775.
Other state powerlifters from Flatonia include Gentry Doyle in the 132 weight class with a 315 squat, 215 bench press, and 335 deadlift for a 865 total. Flatonia lifter Davon Walles from the 308 weight class scored a 610 squat, 370 bench press, and 500 deadlift for a total of 1,480.
