COLUMBUS - The fifth graders from Columbus Elemen - tary School and St. Anthony's School came together on May 11 to bring together the items buried in the next time capsule. Each class made a collection of items to be encapsulated for the next 50 years for citizens of Colum - bus in 2073. Some of the many things put in the metal box were scrapbooks with pictures and articles, paraphernalia from Co - lumbus's bicentennial, almost a year's worth of newspapers from The Houston Chronicle, The Col - orado County Citizen, The Ban - ner Press Newspaper, and even a couple of iPhones. 05/31/2023 23:00

Fayette Savings Bank made a donation to St. Michael School in Weimar from its School Debit Card Program. FSB customers who chose to have the SMS Swords debit card contribute toward the program indirectly, as each time they make a purchase using the card, a percentage of each swipe goes to SMS. Donations are being made to all of the schools FSB has school debit cards for - La Grange, Flatonia, Schulenburg and Weimar ISDs, as well as Sacred Heart School in La Grange. RESS COLUMBUS –The historic Stafford Opera House in Columbus had a full house on May 7, when several hundred people attended another celebration for the Columbus bicentennial birthday. The gathering was a birthday party with a play, a beautiful cake, and a punch! The play was appropriately titled, 'Happy Birthday, Columbus!' It was set as a fifth-grade classroom with students giving reports about the history of Columbus and some Texas history. It featured local actors such as Mayor Lori An Gobert as the principal, Dr. Kirk Anderson as the superintendent, and Mark Candela as the teacher. The fid - gety and silly fifth-grade students were played by Ann Butler, Ester Chandler, Gary Chandler, John Crews, John Isbell, Shirley Isbell, Steve McCullough, Kathy Salguero, James Yearwood, and Bob Stiles with his dog, Beamer. 05/17/2023 23:00

The certificate was presented to Colorado County for Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting. It was presented to Colorado County for its Annual Comprehensive Financial report for the fiscal year ending Dec 31, 2021.
