Schulenburg softball beats Refugio in playoff series
Lady Horns softball has extended their 2023 season by winning two out of three games against Refugio High School in a playoff series May 4 and 5. After a relatively slow start to the year, Schulenburg has caught fire with an overall record of 19-9 and 8-6 in district. In the playoff series against Refugio, Schulenburg won the first game 7-2, lost the second game 6-7, and won the third game 9-1.

Columbus baseball slaughters Randolph in playoff by mercy rule
FLATONIA – The Columbus High School baseball team matched up against Randolph High School in a playoff game at Bulldogs Field May 6 and defeated Randolph by mercy rule with a final score of 18-3. The Cardinals hitting was a force to be reckoned with and Randolph had trouble putting the bat on the ball due to Columbus’ elite pitching. "We talked about that we were up one to nothing in the series and we wanted to come out early and kind of set the tone for game two,” said Columbus head baseball coach Heath Allen.

Sealy man gets 60 years in TDC
BELLVILLE – Travis Koehn, Criminal District Attorney for Austin County, announced that a jury sentenced Damien Eveline, 44, of Sealy, to 60 years in the Texas Department of Corrections. The jury found Eveline guilty of tampering with evidence and a Habitual Felony Offender under the law.

LIBRARY TO HOLD ANNUAL BOOK SALE
WEIMAR - The Friends of the Weimar Public Library will hold their annual book sale on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Weimar Library located at 1 Jackson Square in Weimar. This sale is open to the public and everyone is invited to come see what we have to offer. The library will have many books and DVD's for sale for every age group. EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club welcomed two key employees of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Yoakum District on April 27. Ryan Simper, right, is the engineer for the Wharton Area of the Yoakum District and is in charge of construction and maintenance within four Counties. Lucean Kuykendall is the Public Information Officer for the entire eleven-county Yoakum District Simpler spoke about the responsibilities of the Yoakum District to plan, design, build, operate and maintain the state transportation system in its 11 counties: Austin, Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonza- les, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Victoria, and Wharton.
