Alleyton seeks to incorporate, consolidate with Columbus

ALLEYTON — One of Colorado County’s oldest settlements is seeking to incorporate with the hopes of eventually consolidating with the city of Columbus, the Columbus City Council learned last Tuesday.

Alleyton resident Roger Wade, who serves as spokesperson for a sizeable group of Alleyton residents, addressed the council and spoke with The Banner Press about the group’s plans.

“We were approached by a group of people in Alleyton, many long term residents, with concerns about the deterioration of Alleyton with respect to the amount of trash, lack of upkeep, and increased crime,” Wade said Monday.

Wade said the group initially went to county officials for assistance. However, because the county is forbidden from enacting zoning in unincorporated areas, there is little that can be done other than continuing to report nuisances and crime.
