Elementary Nominated for National Blue Ribbon

AUSTIN – Garwood Elementary School (GES) in Rice Consolidated Independent School District was nominated by the Texas Education Agency to receive the national Blue Ribbon Honor.

GES Principal Leroy Stavinoha Jr. was informed Jan. 16 that Garwood was one of only 26 schools to be nominated from Texas. Garwood was nominated as an Exemplary High-Performing School.

Also nominated in the same category were Brownsville ISD Putegnat Elementary School; Caddo Mills ISD Kathryn Griffis Elementary School; Dallas ISD Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet School and Walnut Hill Elementary School; Dublin ISD Dublin Elementary School; George West ISD George West Primary School; Grand Prairie ISD Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy; Houston ISD Field Elementary School and Project Chrysalis Middle School; McAllen ISD Houston Elementary School; Roma ISD Emma Vera Elementary School; and Valley View ISD Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary School.

Nominated in the Exemplary Achievement-Gap Closing Schools were Brownsville ISD Hudson Elementary School; Dallas ISD Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School; Hawkins ISD Hawkins Elementary School; Hidalgo ISD Hidalgo Park Elementary School; Idea Public Schools Idea Quest College Preparatory School; La Joya ISD Elodia R. Chapa Elementary School and Elodia R. Chapa Elementary School; Laredo ISD H.B. Zachry Elementary School, Dovalina Elementary School, Ryan Elementary School and J.C. Martin Jr. Elementary School; Mission CISD Hilda C. Escobar/Alicia C. Rios Elementary School; United ISD Judith Zaffirini Elementary School; and Valley View ISD Valley View North Elementary School.
