GOP runoffs on the horizon for District 13 state rep, four Fayette County offices
The race to succeed Leighton Schubert, who resigned with one year remaining on his House District 13 term, will have a runoff in the Republican Primary to see who will go up against Democrat Cecil Webster of Carmine in November’s general election.
Jill Wolfskill of Bellville was the top vote-getter in the five-person GOP race as she received 8,874, or 38.52 percent, to Ben Leman’s 8,349 votes (36.23 percent). Leman hails from Iola.
At least 50 percent plus one vote is needed to avoid a runoff.
House District 13 encompasses Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties in the tri-county area, as well as Burleson, Grimes, Lavava and Washington counties.
