Two bond packages highlight elections

It’s time,Election Day 2018 is an opportunity for tri-county residents to weigh in on the political process and have a say in the future of our community, state and nation, according to Colorado County Farm Bureau President Marv Ulbricht. Early voting runs through Friday, Nov. 2. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m Two government entities — Austin County and Flatonia ISD — will hold bond elections. Austin County has a $17 million bond issue on the ballot to build a new “justice center.” It will be an addition to the sheriff’s office to house two courtrooms, court-at-law judge, and offices district attorney, district clerk and county clerk.

The original part of the jail will be renovated and new sheriff’s offices will be built at the same time. “The renovation and sheriff’s offices will be paid for with a Certificate of Obligation not to exceed $9.5 million,” said Austin County Judge Tim Lapham.
