AUSTIN - With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing Texans to carefully navigate family events, those living in isolation are facing a holiday season unlike any other. In response to emergency rules that have limited family access to long-term care facilities, State Representative James B. Frank (R - Wichita Falls) and State Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R - Brenham) today filed HB 892, HJR 46, SB 267 and SJR 19 in an effort to strengthen the rights of facility residents to maintain contact and personal visits with their loved ones during state emergencies.
A regional task force led by the Austin County Sheriff’s Department with participation from the Colorado County Sheriff’s Department and on-site scene assistance from the Columbus Police Department, conducted a raid at Lone Star Inn and Suites along Interstate 20 outside of Columbus last Thursday. An official with the Austin County Sheriff’s Department told the Banner Press the task force captured a man wanted on a blue warrant for parole violations who was also suspected of selling methamphetamines out of a room at the hotel.
