LEROY ALFRED CANIK

LeRoy Alfred Canik passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his home in Fayetteville, Texas at the age of 90.
LeRoy was born at home in Lone Oak on March 21, 1935, to Emma (Meyer) Canik and Alfred E. Canik.
LeRoy attended school near Frelsburg at the Boggy Branch School. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1954. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years in Germany.
He married Peggy Elaine Vasicek on October 27, 1963, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Texas. They had two children, Randall and Rhonda.
LeRoy worked as a loader until retirement at the Pioneer Gravel Pit in Garwood, Texas. He also operated his own welding shop, Canik’s Welding & Iron Supply for many years. Due to health issues, LeRoy finally closed his welding shop in December, 2024.
He also enjoyed baling hay for his customers.
LeRoy was a member of the Fayetteville Knights of Columbus Council #3168 where he served as a 4th Degree Knight and was a member of the American Legion Post #602.
LeRoy loved spending time with family and friends. He loved being on his tractor or on his John Deere Gator checking his cattle. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; son, Randall Canik and his wife, Debora, of Fayetteville, TX; brother, Al Gene Canik and his wife, Carolyn, of Frelsburg, TX; grandchildren: Brandon Canik and his wife, Emilie, of New Ulm, TX; Amber Canik and Dustin Canik of Fayetteville, TX; one great grandchild, Joseph Canik of New Ulm, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Alfred E. Canik and Emma Meyer Canik; inlaws, Stanley Vasicek and Loraine (Coufal) Vasicek; daughter, Rhonda Kay Canik; brother, Raymond Canik and his wife, Mary; and sister, Earline Canik Shimek.
A special “thank you” to the following caregivers: Mable Hall, Merlean Henry, Ashley Ashton, Christine Innis, Wanda Johnson, Trini Toscano, Surlean Mays, Annie Davis and to Brazos Valley Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Texas. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
