ROSALIE NOVOSAD MEYER

ROSALIE NOVOSAD MEYER

February 26, 1929 — November 14, 2025

Rosalie Novosad Meyer left this life on November 14, 2025 in the loving arms of her Lord, at the age of 96. She was born to the late Rudolph and Adela (Cordes) Novosad on February 26, 1929.

Rosalie led an interesting life. After graduating from Wharton High School in 1948, she entered Sacred Heart Convent and became Sister Mary Evangela. Her love of learning continued and she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, teaching elementary school students. Over time, however, she realized that the convent was not actually God’s plan for her, so she returned to secular life in 1967 with her strong Catholic faith to guide the next phase of her life.

She earned her Master of Arts degree from Incarnate Word College in 1969 and accepted a job with Clear Creek ISD in League City where she taught, served on text book and calendar committees, and even served as a school principal. Her teaching career spanned 37 years.

To her great joy, she met the love of her life, Erwin Meyer, and they were married in 1982, moving her to the Devil’s Backbone area of the Texas Hill Country. Rosalie loved gardening, cooking, canning, and sewing – especially embroidery and cut work on table cloths, napkins, and pillowcases. Erwin and Rosalie moved to Columbus in 1994, and became members of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Life in their new home was happy until losing her beloved Erwin in 1995.

Rosalie is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Adela (Cordes) Novosad, husband Erwin Meyer, siblings Lad Novosad, Jane Novosad Scheel, Lillian Novosad Steffek, John Novosad, Dorothy Novosad Wieghat, Marie Novosad Sekula, and Gilbert Novosad, nieces and nephews Denise Van Osdel, Kevin Scheel, Randy Steffek, Mark Novosad, Michael Novosad, and Matt Jackson.

She is survived by her sibling, Adeline (Addie) Novosad Jackson, nieces and nephews Debbie Swenson, Pam Morgan, Cynthia Gentry, Amber Cortemelia, Tim Novosad, Ken Novosad, Patrice Heath, Tony Novosad, Rodney Wieghat, Tim Wieghat, Carlton Wieghat, Scott Wieghat, Sheryl Williams, Russell Sekula, Elaine Schwarzkopf, Amy Cate, Chris Novosad, stepchildren Leonard Meyer and Barbara Clayton, and their families.

Her family would especially like to thank Sharon and Joe Hajovsky, and Patti and Greg Montello, for taking such wonderful care of Rosalie as her health declined the last several years, and for being beloved friends to her.

Funeral services for Rosalie will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church beginning with Visitation at 10:00 am, followed by a Rosary at 10:30 am, Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, and Interment at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.

Rosalie was a faithful Catholic and her days were faith filled. She prayed daily. In her younger years, she shared her faith teaching CCD, and even trained CCD teachers. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Anthony Catholic Church, P.O. Box 669, Columbus, TX 78934 or to the charity of your choice.
