Rose Marie (Baca) Rohde, 89, of Fayetteville, Texas, passed away on July 28, 2026.

She lived a beautiful life marked by faith, and selflessness that could brighten a room and make even the most ordinary day feel like a blessing.

She was born on December 12, 1936, to John R. and Marie Baca. As a child, Rose loved fishing with her grandmother and playing piano. She graduated in 1954 from Fayetteville High School and attended banking trade school and became a teller at Southwest Bank in Houston and later at Fayetteville Bank. In 1958, she married Jim Rohde and over the next 60 years built a life centered on family, hard work, and polka music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her beloved parents, brothers Clarence and Lee Edward Baca and in laws Elo and Agnes Rohde.

Rose's life was centered on family, and she embraced the sacred calling of being a mother and grandmother. She

is survived by her children, Shannan Gerik (Tom) of Columbus, Rhonda 'Kim' Kovar

(Randy) of La Grange, James 'Jimmy' Rohde, Jr (Donna) of La Grange, and Roxane Hartley (Doak) of Columbus. She also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren, Jaime Cutler (Kevin), Robyn Ulrich (Travis), Jenna Holt (Padon), Ross Kovar, Tyler Gerik (Rebecca), Parrie Hartley, Heather Huvar (Kyle), Harley Rohde, and Marissa Rohde, as well as great-grandchildren Everett, Kyle Rose, Walker and Truitt Ulrich, Harper, Claire and Gentry Holt, Knox and Calvin Cutler, and Nash and Tess Gerik. Brother and sister-inlaw, Tom and Bonnie Rohde, sister-in-law Jane Brugh and former brother-in-law Randy Brugh. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rose was a faithful Catholic whose life reflected her devotion to God and her church. She volunteered at St. John's Catholic Church and was an officer of St. John's CDA, SPJST #1, and KJZT Society #10. She was a member of St John’s Altar Society, and a docent for the Czech Historical Center and Fayetteville Area Museum. Her service was never about being noticed but serving with a humble heart. Music was one of the great joys of Rose's life. She started playing drums at a young age and later moved to piano. She played piano with her father, John R. Baca's Band and traveled throughout the state playing polka music. She continued playing with her husband Jim Rohde's band, sharing her gifts in a way that brought joy to many. Rose was also part of the Fayetteville Czech Dancers and Singers, celebrating her heritage. She was the source of all Baca history and was featured in many Czech music publications.

She also loved to travel. She and Jim traveled all over the United States and the world, sometimes playing Czech music with different groups. After Jim's passing, she continued traveling with her family. 'Rohdecation' became a beloved tradition filled with

Caribbean beaches, Colorado ski resorts, NYC birthday trips, and memories that could

outlast any suitcase zipper. In 2025, she traveled to Europe and walked through all four Holy Doors in Rome, while also seeing the remarkable sights of Barcelona, Spain, and

Lourdes, France.

Rose loved watching Hallmark movies, Wurstfest, and having a good time with the people she loved. We will miss the cards she would send in the mail and the birthday singing phone calls.

Rose leaves behind a legacy of devotion, music, travel, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord, reunited with those who went before her, and likely already finding the heavenly piano.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Fayetteville from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Fayetteville on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Fayetteville City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St John the Baptist Catholic Church Endowment Fund, the Fayetteville Area Museum or to a charity of your choice.
