Graveside service for Sidney George Rutta, 94, of Columbus will be held today (Thursday, Dec. 10) at 2 p.m. at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus with Pastor Victor Morrison officiating.

Burial will take place at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus.

Rutta passed away on Dec. 5 in Houston.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1926, to Dominic Alphonse Rutta and Frances (Zapalac) Rutta in Columbus. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1943.

Rutta was united in marriage with Marjorie Bridges on April 26, 1960.

He worked as an abstractor and was a partner at Elliott & Waldron Abstract Company for many years.

Rutta was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Columbus.

He enjoyed hunting, especially duck and goose hunting. He also raised Angus cattle, being one of the earlier breeders of the now common black cattle in South Central Texas.

Rutta was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic Rutta and Frances Rutta; son, Brian Jeffrey Rutta; sister, Lillian Ragsdale; brothers, Charles D. Sr., Jerry P., Dominic H., Alfred L. and J. M. “Bill” Rutta.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Rutta; sons, Robert Gregg and Barry Douglas Rutta; grandson, Austin Jeffrey Rutta; sisters-in-law, Martha Rutta, Margaret Bridges and Judy Bridges; and numerous nieces and nephews.
