The link between black, white families in Tri-County area can help uncover family history for both races

The 400th anniversary of the first Africans brought to what is now the United States in 1619 has been in the news a great deal recently. Historians are using the anniversary as an opportunity to explore both slavery and the history of black families to help younger generations better understand both the realities of slavery and what happened to black families after emancipation.
