Thunder by the Colorado a thunderous success
COLUMBUS – There was hardly a cloud in the sky but the thunder of exhaust pipes coming from souped-up trucks and tractors made it sound like all heck was breaking loose - and the crowd loved it. The weather was great, the trucks and tractors were fantastic and the stands were packed.

Derby done Texas style
BELLVILLE – Hats and hospitality are big in Texas but during the Derby party at High Noon Saloon in Bellville on May 6 was even bigger! The High Noon Saloon was packed for the second year in a row with a Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Party. The band was adorable and the saloon was full of good music and lots of food, mint juleps and laughter.

Sealy man gets 60 years in TDC
BELLVILLE – Travis Koehn, Criminal District Attorney for Austin County, announced that a jury sentenced Damien Eveline, 44, of Sealy, to 60 years in the Texas Department of Corrections. The jury found Eveline guilty of tampering with evidence and a Habitual Felony Offender under the law.

LIBRARY TO HOLD ANNUAL BOOK SALE
WEIMAR - The Friends of the Weimar Public Library will hold their annual book sale on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Weimar Library located at 1 Jackson Square in Weimar. This sale is open to the public and everyone is invited to come see what we have to offer. The library will have many books and DVD's for sale for every age group. Paperback books are 25 cents, hardcover books $1, audio books $2 and DVD movies $1. All proceeds benefit The Friends of the Weimar Public Library organization. EL Noon Lions welcome TxDOT reps
EAGLE LAKE – The Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club welcomed two key employees of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Yoakum District on April 27. Ryan Simper, right, is the engineer for the Wharton Area of the Yoakum District and is in charge of construction and maintenance within four Counties. Lucean Kuykendall is the Public Information Officer for the entire eleven-county Yoakum District Simpler spoke about the responsibilities of the Yoakum District to plan, design, build, operate and maintain the state transportation system in its 11 counties: Austin, Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonza- les, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Victoria, and Wharton.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on April 25, Fayette County Dispatch received a call about a medical emergency. The individual in question is the sole caretaker of an adult autistic family member with no known family or friends anywhere nearby.

Drymalla Construction adds cap to habitat home roof
COLUMBUS – Drymalla Construction puts the shingles on the roof of a Colorado County Habitat for Humanity house at 318 Canal St. in Alleyton. Drymalla Construction provided the labor for free. Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Char- maine Katz is looking for more organizations to volunteer to help build these houses. No ex perience in building is necessary.
