KULM: Beaming radio waves for 50 years
COLUMBUS – What started as a three-kilowatt, Class A radio facility in 1972 now puts out 6,000 watts of power at its location off Highway 71 North in Columbus. Owner John L. Labay received permission from the Federal Communications Commission for a construction permit to build a new facility to house the radio equipment and offices in August of 1973. In March of that year, construction began for a brick building.

“Tourist Town”
My husband, Peter, and I are staying in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, which is, according to a lot of folks, a tourist town. Sometimes, the person saying this means it is not a place they would want to spend time. This puzzles me. I'm not sure why a town known for meatpacking or manufacturing would be a better place to spend time than a town known for tourism. But I respect anyone's right to spend time wherever they want, and Peter and I are happy in San Miguel, in large part because it is a tourist town.

Autism Awareness Month and Community
COLUMBUS – Destiny Psencik was present to represent the Turtle Wing Foundation during the regular meeting of the Colorado County Commissioner's Court on Feb. 27 in Columbus. The court made a proclamation for the month of April 2023 as Autism Awareness Month in Colorado County. Psencik is the executive director of the Turtle Wing Foundation which serves as a resource hub to connect families who have children with learning challenges with the services and support they need to be successful. Psencik said, 'Autism awareness is near and dear to our hearts.' She continued, 'We want to create a culture of awareness and acceptance. ' Turtle Wing serves all of Colorado, Fayette and Lavaca counties.
