Nothing sent me into panic mode than when the siren went off in town while I was in school. Back in the day, I had transferred from Bernard School to Columbus; I wasn’t ready for life in the city. No, I still lived in the country, but things were different, even if it was in school. I went from a classroom-student ratio of six students to one teacher to 30 students to one teacher. There was no longer having that oneon- one with the teacher.

Local arrested for theft
BELLVILLE – O’Marian Freeman, 17, of Bellville was arrested for theft of property in the amount that carries a state jail felony. Freeman was involved with vehicle thefts that occurred in and around the Bellville area over several months.

The Fayette County county- wide feral hog contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette County. The feral hog population causes economic losses to Fayette County Agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage.

Turtle Wing Toast coming up in January
SCHULENBURG – The Turtle Wing Foundation's annual Toast event is slated for Thursday, Jan.25, at Sengelmann Hall, upstairs, in Schulenburg. Doors open and cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with hors'devours and a cash bar. The program begins at 7 p.m. The Turtle Wing Toast is a free event where all are welcome. The event's continued theme is to 'Remember, Rejoice, Renew' - remember how we started, rejoice in our accomplishments, and renew our mission for the new year. This year, the program, 'A Lasting Legacy' will be highlighting the legacy of Turtle Wing and the future legacy of The Challenger League, which is a baseball league for those with disabilities under the Weimar Little League umbrella.
